Financial Aid Information

Seniors should apply for financial aid starting October 1 using their parents' prior year's tax returns!

The deadline for Cal Grant Eligibility is March 2. 

Fill out one of the following:

Apply for Federal & State Aid with a valid Social Security Number (SSN):

  1. Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  2. Seniors do not have to turn in a Cal Grant Grade Point Average Release Form if parents did not opt out of Cal Grant when registering with the San Mateo Union High School District.

Dream Act Students (AB540) Apply for California State Aid (for undocumented students)

  1. California Dream Act Application
  2. Seniors do not have to turn in a Cal Grant Grade Point Average Release Form if parents did not opt out of Cal Grant when registering with San Mateo Union High School.

Important: Some private colleges require additional forms or applications and have earlier priority deadlines. The College Scholarship Service Profile for institutional aid is required at some private institutions! See college financial aid website for more information and fees.

Cash for College Workshops

Have questions about FAFSA or CADAA? Attend a free Calfornia Student Aid Commission (CSAC) Statewide Cash for College Webinar! These webinars provide students and their families information on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and California Dream Act Application (CADAA).

CSAC and San Mateo County Office of Education Workshops
Spanish interpretation will be available during both of these workshops.

In-Person Financial Aid Workshops

SMUHSD will be hosting in-person financial aid workshops at multiple school sites in January and February for 12th graders and their families to get hands-on assistance with completing the FAFSA and California Dream Act applications.

  • These workshops are open to all SMUHSD students and their families (not just students of the school where the workshop is located).
  • Please bring your school-issued laptop.
  • Spanish interpretation will be available for Spanish speaking families
