Welcome to the Physical Education Department

The Physical Education curriculum of the San Mateo Union High School District is a two-year co-educational program. The primary goal is to provide a comprehensive, sequential program, which is designed to promote through movement, the physical, mental, and social well-being of every student in the pursuit of lifelong wellness. The physical education curriculum is based upon the California State Standards for Physical Education incorporating the disciplines of motor learning, biomechanics, exercise physiology, human growth and development, psychology, sociology, and historical perspectives. In addition, the physical education curriculum asks students to use their skills in reading, writing, and mathematics. This comprehensive physical education curriculum focuses on the holistic development and health of the individual. Our goal is to guide students through many areas of physical activities and methods of physical and mental wellness for them to continue lifelong learning and participation in sports.
